Your browser reads the numbers off each bill — readings, units, totals, dates — cross-checks them against DPDC's official payment history (the ledger), and keeps the original file too, ready to download one by one or all together.
When it can fail
What can go wrong, and what to do about it — each row: what you'll see, and the fix.
- DPDC's site is down or slow — months marked “failed”
- Wait a bit and press “Retry failed months” — months that already worked won't be fetched again.
- Wrong customer number — every month “invalid”
- Double check the কাস্টমার নং on a recent bill and try again.
- “No bill” months — normal, not an error
- Months before the account existed (or the newest month, not issued yet) simply have no bill. After 3 empty months in a row the search stops early — that's usually where the account began.
- Some numbers missing — row shows partial data
- DPDC occasionally changes their bill format and a value or two can't be read automatically. The original bill still opens fine — you can read the missing figure yourself from it.
- “Estimated” months — not a parsing failure
- Some months DPDC didn't actually read the meter — the bill itself gives no units figure, just an estimate marker. This page shows those rows as "estimated" rather than "partial" since nothing was missed; the units number simply isn't on the bill to read.
- Very long ranges — slow, or the page gets heavy
- Fetching many years at once works but takes a while. A few years at a time is more comfortable.
FAQ
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. Bills live only in this browser tab until you download them. Close the tab and everything is gone.
Does my customer number go anywhere besides DPDC?
No. It's only used to fetch your bill from DPDC's own website — nothing is saved or sent anywhere else.
Why does it wait between months?
Politeness — this fetches no faster than a person clicking through the official site, so it doesn't burden DPDC's servers. ~1 second per month.
How far back does history go?
The same as DPDC's own site — bills exist from when the account started. The walk stops after 3 consecutive empty months, which usually marks the beginning.
Can I pay bills from here?
No — this is read-only history. For payment use DPDC's own site or your bank.
What's the difference between "Meter reading" and "Units used"?
Meter reading is the running total your meter shows, like a car's odometer — it only ever goes up (until DPDC replaces the meter, and the new one starts again from near 0). Units used is how much it moved this month (this reading minus last month's), which is what you're actually billed for — for most homes those two match exactly. Higher-load and commercial connections (CT-metered, shown on the bill as an "OMF" — overall multiplying factor — other than 1) are billed for units equal to that reading difference times the OMF, since the meter itself only measures a scaled-down fraction of the real current. A domestic account's OMF is 1, so the distinction never shows up there.
What does ✱ mean, and what are "ledger preferred" / "e-bill preferred"?
Each month's bill is checked against DPDC's official payment history — the ledger. When the two disagree for a month, that row gets a ✱ — and so does the point on each chart that plots the disagreeing figure (a units mismatch marks the units charts, not the taka one both sides agree on) — and a Show switch appears above the table: Ledger (official) or Monthly bill (as printed). It controls which side's number the table and all charts display — the captions and downloaded filenames of charts it changes say which ("ledger preferred" or "e-bill preferred") so a saved image never has to be guessed at later. Nothing is silently overwritten: the other side's value comes right back when you flip the switch. The ledger is the official record DPDC's own office goes by, which is why it's the default.
What is the "Meter reading over time" chart showing?
The odometer itself — the running total on the meter's face, month by month, generally rising. Each point is dated by the bill's own reading date (বর্তমান তারিখ — the day the meter was actually read, roughly two weeks before the bill is issued), so an August reading isn't mislabeled as September. A gap in the line means no bill or an unread meter that month, not a drop. A dashed "meter replaced" divider marks where a new meter took over — the line restarts from its low reading instead of plunging. Months with no printed reading date (ledger-only months, exports saved before this chart existed) show just the month.
What is the "Payment-history ledger" card above the table?
Besides each month's bill, DPDC keeps one official payment-history PDF — the ledger — listing every billed month for your account. This page fetches it first and checks every bill against it. The card tells you what it covers, whether every bill matched (green) or how many months disagree (amber, marked ✱ in the table and charts), and lets you save the ledger PDF or open it on DPDC's own site. If DPDC doesn't hand the ledger over, the card turns amber and says the bills are shown as printed, not cross-checked — fetch again later.
Can I view my bills again without fetching from DPDC?
Yes — export JSON once, then use "Import it" above the form any time afterward to see the same table and charts instantly, no fetching at all. The original bill PDFs aren't part of that file (they're in the separate zip download), so imported data can't re-download PDFs or build a fresh zip — everything else works the same.
